Orchids are thought to have originated in Mongolia. According to researchers, the plant was already in existence some 120 million years ago. Nowadays it is a globetrotter, which thrives everywhere, except in Polar Regions. The easygoing plant grows on rocks, in and around trees, in high mountain regions and lowlands. They even thrive in cold regions and, of course, in humid rain forests. The tropical varieties are best known here. Orchid is derived from the Greek word 'orchis', which means testicle and refers to the pseudo bulbs produced by some varieties. It is not really strange that people thought that the orchid could promote fertility and masculinity.
